Projects—the big picture: Anchorage 2020 Comprehensive Plan

The Anchorage Bowl Comprehensive Plan, adopted by the municipal Assembly on February 20, 2001 and amended on September 10, 2002, is a blueprint for development in the Anchorage Bowl during the next 20 years. The on-line version of Anchorage 2020 is available for download chapter by chapter or in its entirety.

The East Anchorage District Plan (EADP) is a vital step-down plan to bridge the gap between the vision and goals set forth in Anchorage 2020 and the implementation needed to make that vision a reality. The East Anchorage District Plan was adopted by the Anchorage Assembly on December 2, 2014.

Knowing the policies/goals of these two key land use plans is very helpful. These documents provide the means to make effective comments when a proposal comes before Planning & Zoning or the Anchorage Assembly. Comments are most effective when linked to a particular policy in these plans. To promote (or resist) any proposed development, it matters whether the development plans are in accordance with the code spelled out in the East Anchorage District Plan's policies/goals or in the overarching Anchorage 2020 Comprehensive Plan.
